What if my injuries are relatively minor?
If you have returned to work within a few days or weeks of the car accident, and your injuries have healed within 12 to 18 months of the accident, you may well be able to settle the claim fairly on your own.
In this type of case, the amount of money involved in the settlement may not justify the expense in hiring a BC personal injury lawyer. Many lawyers won't take a claim valued at less than $10,000-$15,000 on the basis that the claim is not large enough to warrant the time that a personal injury lawyer would have to spend to prepare and resolve your claim. If you can make an informed decision that the settlement offer made by ICBC in a case where you have totally recovered is fair in the circumstances, you may wish to proceed to attempt to resolve the case on your own. |
